faith in broken bones
Er, to those who are awaiting replies to emails, to those who send their best my way, my apologies. My life is in a shit hole right now, and its personal stuff that involves those around me who are closest and they didn’t buy into this whole blog thing, so don’t deserve their pain out there for the world to read. I hope to be back but right now blogging is the furthest thing from my mind.
This is a beautiful song from a beautiful man written for a man who, more than most, needed resurrection…I could do with some of that too. Thanks for your love and thoughts. I’ll be seeing you…I need to find some air that isn’t too angry to breath.
Have you ever seen a one trick pony in the field so happy and free?
If you’ve ever seen a one trick pony then you’ve seen me
Have you ever seen a one-legged dog making his way down the street?
If you’ve ever seen a one-legged dog then you’ve seen me
Then you’ve seen me, I come and stand at every door
Then you’ve seen me, I always leave with less than I had before
Then you’ve seen me, bet I can make you smile when the blood, it hits the floor
Tell me, friend, can you ask for anything more?
Tell me can you ask for anything more?
Have you ever seen a scarecrow filled with nothing but dust and wheat?
If you’ve ever seen that scarecrow then you’ve seen me
Have you ever seen a one-armed man punching at nothing but the breeze?
If you’ve ever seen a one-armed man then you’ve seen me
Then you’ve seen me, I come and stand at every door
Then you’ve seen me, I always leave with less than I had before
Then you’ve seen me, bet I can make you smile when the blood, it hits the floor
Tell me, friend, can you ask for anything more?
Tell me can you ask for anything more?
These things that have comforted me, I drive away
This place that is my home I cannot stay
My only faith’s in the broken bones and bruises I display
Have you ever seen a one-legged man trying to dance his way free?
If you’ve ever seen a one-legged man then you’ve seen me
(Bruce Springsteen)
Thanks for this wondering about that movie, love redemption stories and now can’t wait to see this one. Praying for you, a simple Romans 8:26 kind of prayer……

Only a human being who has experienced the broken bone sufferings could write such a masterpiece. Only a human being who has lived the broken bone sufferings could genuinely tap into the weeping soul wounds and put on a performance like Rourke did in this movie. We have much to learn from this story…both the movie and their personal lives.
maybe our best selves…our humbled scraped and dislocated selves is where we can live with authentic reverence?
i was thinking last night about the passage in the Bible where we are invited to pick up our crosses and walk with Jesus. May we all have the strength to do so….and if we need help, may we always know there are others whose love will carry some of that burden too.
shared tears, shared sorrows reframes the heaviness of our crosses… let us learn and grow together.
love to you.

Ps 51 (which for me is above all the Allegri setting for Ash Wednesday
“Make me to hear of joy and gladness
That the bones that you have broken may rejoice”
I’m so sorry life is crap for you and for those whom you love..Many prayers heading upwards for you and yours, Paul
Take care

“These things that have comforted me,I drive away
This place that is my home I cannot stay
My only faith’s in the broken bones and bruises I display” – These are the words which yell out to me when I listen to this song, always. It seems to reassure me that we all do this… we all fuck up what is good in life. And heaven help us if we are to learn to change our ways.
Don’t worry about a reply, friend.

I’m sorry about your life…sending you the best kinda prayers I know how to pray.
I think Bruce is going to touch a lot of people with this new song – sadly many of us can relate to that broken down feeling…
I know what you mean about the shit hole, the blog, the whole thing.

I’m looking forward to seeing it too….this backwater city i live in is always behind when it comes to movie releases…except for Sandler’s goofy crap.
Rourke and Springsteen at brick lane….and maybe Bono?
The laughter in the eyes of Springsteen when Rourke was up on the podium made me tear right up.
